As Wainwright said '...this is not fellwalking'.

We followed A. Wainwright's 'Finsthwaite Heights' walk in his book 'The Outlying Fells of Lakeland' [page 74]. Warning - the section from the tower on Summer House Knott down to the Finsthwaite public footpath is through private woodland with no public access.
